Made to Measure Tailoring
The Bryceland's made to measure tailoring service was developed in partnership with W.W. Chan in Hong Kong. It is an expression of our tastes as well as a desire to help our customers find and develop tailoring which showcases their own unique style, reminiscent of the unfussy drape tailoring sported by Hollywood icons of the 40s, 50s and 60s.
Fittings take place at our premises at 48 Chiltern Street in Marylebone, London.
The House Style
The Bryceland's house style is characterised by its softness, drape, and ample proportions. Designed to hang in natural elegance from the shoulders rather than closely contour the body, every tailored piece we produce is built on the same foundation:
- Soft, extended shoulders
- High armholes and full sleeveheads
- Ample drape through the chest and body
Single Breasted Jacket
Designed to drape and hang beautifully, a dramatic wide lapel and low gorge fall into an elegant 3/2 roll, sitting alongside a soft, broad shoulder and fuller fitting silhouette.
Double Breasted Jacket
Bearing the same soft extended shoulder as it's single breasted equivalent; the Double Breasted block has a wide peak lapel with a generously rounded belly, 6x4 closure, and a single Barchetta breast pocket and jetted pockets.
Consultation
Before each fitting we discuss your requirements, so as to better understand your wants and needs for the garment. This allows us to guide you through our fabric selections and discuss the ways in which the finished piece can be worn.
The process then begins in earnest with our in-house sizing garments. Once the most appropriate fitting block has been found, we mark out any adjustments to the pattern to fit your frame. Once satisfied with those amendments, we move onto the more personal details - styling aims and specifics for the garment in question.
Be it a classic two piece navy suit or a tailored tweed sport jacket with separate trousers, we welcome a suitable degree of customisation to truly make the garment yours, without straying too far from our initial foundations.
Cloth Selection
Our curated selection of cloths comes predominantly from reputable British mills, chosen specifically for their quality and durability, and to complement the level of handwork that goes into each tailored jacket, suit and trouser we produce. If you have a particular cloth or mill in mind, we will accommodate wherever possible, though lead times may be affected.
Construction
Each garment is individually worked on by master craftsmen and women using traditional Shanghainese methods, with production being approximately 95% hand-finished. This includes:
- Cutting of the pattern and cloth
- Hand padding of the chest and collar
- Hand-finished buttonholes
- Hand shaping and finishing
All of our jackets are fully canvassed with a floating horsehair canvas, allowing the garment to mould to your form over time, with hand padded lapels creating a natural, subtle roll that only improves with wear.
Fittings & Delivery
Around 8–10 weeks after your first consultation, your new made to measure garment will arrive in store ready for a second and final fitting.
With our house cut being fuller through the body so as to drape along the wearer's natural shape, we find little to no alteration is generally required, predominantly the finishing of trouser lengths and subtle adjustments to sleeve lengths, allowing you to walk away with a finished garment, designed and crafted specifically for you.
